Startup Internship Program

Program Overview

The Center for Career Education (CCE) and Columbia Organization of Rising Entrepreneurs (CORE) partner on the Startup Internship Program (SIP). The SIP program is designed to meet the demand of students who are excited, engaged and curious to know more about the startup community and thinking about pursuing a career in the startup space. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about what it means to see the growth of a business in the marketplace while simultaneously sharpening their skills.

Program Features

The SIP program is a combination of internship experience at a startup, peer connections with other SIP interns and professional career development and support with a career counselor. Program features include the following:

  • Pre-program training that includes program overview, professional skills workshops, panel discussion from startup professionals
  • Twelve-week internship for 10-20 hours per week during the spring semester
  • Networking with other interns to discuss and debrief on internship experiences
  • One-on-one career counseling appointments throughout the twelve weeks to support and enhance the internship experience
  • End-of-program reflection session where students meet to acknowledge achievements made through the program

Program Benefits

Upon completion of the SIP program, students will have gained a richer understanding of the startup industry in New York City and will have had substantial professional experience working at forward thinking and entrepreneurial institutions. Students will have learned about a wide variety of career possibilities, had opportunities to network with start-up professionals and other SIP interns, and gained a more in-depth understanding of and appreciation for the many facets of a startup organization. With the support of a career counseling professional, students will also be able to articulate their experience and reflect upon their internship experience appropriately to highlight key transferable skills.
