Your Profile & Documents
Will employers be able to view my personal info?
Employers
will only be able to see what you submit to them (e.g., resume, cover letter,
transcript). They will not have access to your personal information such as
your GPA, graduation date and major.
How many resumes & cover letters can I upload?
You
can upload a maximum of 99 different cover letters and 99 unique resumes.
Can I update a resume or cover letter after it has
been submitted to an employer?
Yes,
you can update your resume until the resume submission deadline. Once the
submission period expires, the employer will have your final version in its file.
It is very important that you not change your cover letter at all once
submitted.
How do I submit my transcript?
You
can obtain an unofficial transcript from Student Services Online. You can then
scan or download it onto your computer and then upload it with your other
application materials for submission in the My Documents section of LionSHARE.
Misrepresentation of Your LionSHARE Profile
All
students must accurately represent their academic and personal history on any
documentation submitted as part of their application. This includes but is not
limited to misrepresenting academic achievement, institutions and fields of
study, and affiliation specifically to Columbia's
Center for Career Education.
Students will also be held accountable for sharing recruiting information with
anyone who does not have permission to use campus recruiting resources. Misrepresenting information in the hiring
process is grounds for immediate dismissal and potential litigation by
employers.
Any
student who knowingly misrepresents information will put their recruiting privileges
in jeopardy.
Job Postings &
On-Campus Recruiting
What is the difference
between a regular job posting and an on-campus recruiting posting?
A
job posting is when an employer is interested in hiring a Columbia candidate, but does not intend to
conduct interviews on campus. In this case, the employer may contact you at any
time after you submit your resume for an interview, either at the place of
business or over the phone.
An on-campus schedule, however, is for employers from a wide array of industries that intend to hold their interviews at CCE. On-campus interviews are only available to students and alumni from one of the seven schools the Center for Career Education serves.
In order to participate in on-campus recruiting, you must be a student or an alumni from one of our seven schools and you must complete the OCR agreement. Once you have completed this, CCE will then activate you for on-campus recruiting access in LionSHARE within 2 business days.
On rare occasions, you may see an off-campus preselect event. This is when an employer chooses to conduct interviews at their offices, but still use the LionSHARE system for resume submission, candidate selection and interview schedule management.
Job Search Agents
After a job search is conducted you have the opportunity to
save the search and have it emailed to you everyday. It will include any and all newly created and
modified jobs posted within the last 24 hours.
CCE highly encourages you use this functionality and that you keep your
job searches as broad as possible to ensure you don't miss any opportunities.
What is the difference
between preselects & alternates?
Preselects
are those candidates that employers interviewing on-campus designate to have
the first chance to sign up for an interview. Employers may also select
alternates to sign up for interview slots should any preselects fail to do so
in the first two days of the Accepted Student Sign-Up period.
What are the important
dates that I need to remember when participating in on-campus recruiting?
It is very important to pay attention to deadlines in on-campus
recruiting. You will not necessarily be notified via email for these deadlines
so you should check your LionSHARE account frequently and pay attention to the following
dates:
- Request Period Open: Candidates begin submitting applications
- Request Period Closed: Final day candidates can apply
- Accepted Student Sign-up Open: Preselects begin signing up for interview slots
- Alternate Students Sign-up Open: Alternates begin signing up for interview slots
- Sign-up Closed: Final day that both preselects and alternates can sign up for interview slots
- Each Open date begins at 12:01am and each closed date ends at
11:59pm.
Can I withdraw
from a scheduled on-campus interview?
You will be able to remove yourself from the interview schedule
by using your LionSHARE account up to 2 business days before the interview date. Any student who fails to remove him/herself
from an interview slot at least 2 business days in advance, does not show up
for the interview, or is late to arrive will be immediately suspended from the
on-campus recruiting program. Please refer to
the Policies and Procedures for further
details.
What does it mean if I can
view a job listing or on-campus interview, but can not apply for it?
The
only reason this would happen would be if you do not qualify to apply for the position
based on your academic profile information (e.g., GPA, graduation date, major,
work authorization). Employers have the option of setting screening criteria
for candidates who apply for their job postings and on-campus interviews based
on the academic profile information in LionSHARE.
Can I keep a record of all of the jobs and
interviews I apply for?
LionSHARE
will keep an archive of all of the jobs and on-campus interviews that you have
applied for. This record is called your Referral file and is located in My
Activity
When do I have to give an
employer an answer for a job/internship offer?
Students have 2 weeks from the date of the offer to reply or until
the below dates; whichever is later.
For offers extended to previous summer interns, candidates have until November 11, 2009 to make a decision. Candidates interviewed during the fall semester have until November 25, 2009 to make a decision. For internship offers extended to previous first year/second year summer interns, candidates have until February 26, 2010 to make a decision. Candidates interviewed for internships during the spring semester have until March 12, 2010 to make a decision.
For offers extended by employers who did not recruit on-campus, candidates have two weeks from the date of the offer to make a decision. Any candidate who withdraws an acceptance (i.e., reneges on an offer), after initially accepting an employment offer obtained through the recruiting program, will immediately lose all LionSHARE access.
Other LionSHARE Functions
Will employer events appear in my LionSHARE
account?
Yes,
your LionSHARE account will have a calendar function to inform you of
employer-related events held both on- and off-campus (e.g., information
sessions and career fairs) and any upcoming interviews that you have scheduled.
In addition, you may use your LionSHARE calendar to keep track of personal
events like tests and appointments. You will see this calendar on your
LionSHARE homepage.
What is the Report a Hire
option?
This tool in LionSHARE allows you to report on your
hiring (which is called a Placement in LionSHARE). This information is extremely
useful for CCE to gather in order to
best serve the student and alumni population. In the event that you secure a
job, please log it by using the Report a Hire function.
What is the Employer
Directory?
The
Employer Directory is a listing of employers that have recruited Columbia candidates in
the past, along with further information such as a company description,
industry type, preferred majors, office location and events/jobs/interview
schedules posted. Inclusion in this catalog is voluntary and does not include
all of the employers that recruit Columbia
candidates.
What is the Resume Book
Option?
Employers have the option of requesting a resume book of
students who are actively searching opportunities. Students must opt into this
program. To learn more, see the "Resume Book Guidelines and FAQs" section
in the Resource Library within LionSHARE.
Will there be training
sessions at CCE on LionSHARE?
There are Power Half-Hours scheduled at CCE to more fully
explain the capabilities and nuances of the LionSHARE system during the first
few weeks of each semester. Please visit CCE's online calendar at http://www.careereducation.columbia.edu/events
for details.
