Why do a Virtual Internship?
Working remotely is becoming the new normal. CNN Money reports, “The number of telecommuting workers has increased 115% in a decade, according to a new report from Global Workplace Analytics and FlexJobs.” In addition, a recent study has shown that remote work has profound effects on productivity.
You’re not limited by your location
Virtual internships can connect you to employers across New York, the U.S., and the globe while working on projects remotely from the comfort of your room, apartment, or campus workspace.
You’ll Build Soft Skills while Working Remotely
In addition to the skills gained from the project you are working on, virtual internships allow you to build time management and communication skills essential for getting the work done from afar. Esra Ar, (CC 2018) participated in CCE’s Virtual Internship Program and had the following to say about her experience working for Australian Learning Group as their MOOC Startup Project Coordinator:
Instead of [just] working for a company, I felt as though I was working for myself too, to improve myself and my understanding of social media marketing.
You’ll demonstrate initiative, work independently, AND AVOID THe COMMUTE
So if you are a self-starter who enjoys taking initiative, working independently, and wants to test out working in a non-traditional setting (not to mention avoiding the 1 train commuting hassle) a virtual internship could be for you!
