CCE is here to support international students as you navigate an internship/job search abroad.

International students often concurrently explore graduate school, job search in the US, and job search at home. Through our work with you in career counseling and our meetings with international student groups, we know that you have interest in learning about resources for job search at home.

Not sure where to start?

CCE is here to support your job search at home strategy with these tips.

1. Navigate LionSHARE’s job portal and filter by location

  • You can discover positions that are posted through the location filter and save jobs/internships.
  • You can search for employers by location
  • Also look at events in LionSHARE as some companies host info sessions for recruitment outside of the US, primarily in the Asia-pacific region. We also participate in an annual Asia Career Fair every August.

2. Create a LinkedIn account, and set up LinkedIn job alerts by location and industry/job function

  • Let LinkedIn do the work for you- with job alerts set up, you can receive regular updates about positions in your area of interest.

3. Use LinkedIn’s Columbia University in the City of New York page to find alumni who work in your city

  • The Alumni tab on Columbia’s page gives you access to over 200,000 alumni many of them have worked abroad.

4. Network with Columbia’s extensive international alumni base

  • Columbia University has alumni clubs in 63 countries internationally. Reach out to the international clubs to get involved in their local events, subscribe to their newsletter or seek out informational interviews to learn about their journey to landing a job in your country of interest.

5. Tap into GoingGlobal for Country Career Guides and an Employer Directory Search that can share local job postings.  This rich resource offers job postings in local languages and English.

6. Research multinational companies that have international offices in your home country, and visit their local websites for internship/job postings

  • We subscribe to Uniworld, which you can search for subsidiaries in your country of organizations of interest to you.
  • Also, check out this article from The Muse, which highlights many companies with international offices that seek diverse international talent to add to their teams.

Researching opportunities at home is just one piece of the puzzle. CCE is here to offer support in a myriad of ways, including application material reviews, professional recruiting/networking events, interview preparation, and more.
