Welcome to Our New Website!
We hope you’ve taken a look around and like what you see. We are excited to unveil our yearlong efforts to improve the user experience, refresh the look, simplify our resources, and overall make it easier for you to find the valuable information we have to offer to Columbia students.
You asked, We listened
Throughout the process we have worked to incorporate student insight in the redesign process. Going back to Spring 2016, over 350 students responded to our website satisfaction survey letting us know what they wanted in our new site. From there, we evaluated third party vendors to give us a new look based on your feedback. We partnered with a development company specializing in higher education websites to build our new site from start to finish. Our partnership started by conducting student focus groups in fall 2016. Our hope was to hear directly from students in the five schools we serve on what they look for when visiting our website.
You’ll still see most of the content from our old site migrated to the new site – it just got a face lift. In creating a new layout, we also reworked the structure and online resource pages so that you can drill down on the information you’re looking for faster. This semester, we had current Columbia students complete usability testing on the beta website. They were asked specific task-based questions to be completed on the new website. We used their feedback on the complexity and time it took to find information in our final iteration of the new website.
Here’s some of what we heard.
“I think it’s such an upgrade from the old website! I find the overall layout really easy to read and nice to work with.”
“I don’t remember this from the old website. This is really nice. I wouldn’t know that the website would have specific info for certain majors.”
Faces of Columbia
You may also notice the familiar faces in many of our images. Our aim was to make you feel at home by using our students, our campus, and our student photographers. We were thrilled to partner with Michael Edmonson (CC’20) and Jaime Danies (SEAS’20) of the Columbia Photography Association to capture the images used on our site.
We hope that you take a look around and see all that we have to offer here at CCE!
