Columbia undergraduate students are invited to come learn about careers at U.S. Department of State with Diplomat in Residence Tiffany McGriff.
America’s diplomats are selected from the approximately 15,000 people who take The Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT). The FSOT is offered three times a year, and is open to American citizens between the ages of 20 and 59 from any background. It is free. The FSOT is held in October, February, and June. Register at careers.state.gov.
The U.S. Department of State Student Internship is an unpaid, intensive internship offering U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students a chance to participate in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy, working closely with representatives of the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign and Civil Services. The program is both professionally and academically beneficial, providing participants with hands-on experience and insight into the substance and daily operations of U.S. foreign policy. There are internships available in Washington, DC and also at U.S. Embassies around the world.
Tiffany’s talk will focus on student internships, taking the FSOT, and will also share information about the Pickering and Rangel programs that cover graduate education with a requirement to join the Diplomatic Corps after graduation.
