VAULT debuts "Career Insider" with vastly expanded content
October 09, 2009
Following the June debut of its brand new consumer website, Vault.com today offered another exciting advancement in traditional job search with the launch of the new "Career Insider" formerly the Online Career Library -- currently serving 7 million consumers through more than 1,200 universities, colleges, public and academic libraries and government organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
From career fairs to job search training seminars to help wanted postings, these institutions, including Harvard Business School, Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies, Yale Law School, Stanford University, University of Chicago Alumni Association, the New York Public Library and the U.S. Joint Service Academies, have made great effort to help reverse the record unemployment plaguing the world's economy. Vault is doing its part to help in this cause.
More than just a database for users to search employment opportunities, Vault's newly named Career Insider incorporates Web 2.0 strategies that expanded upon popular features from the previous site with new content, improved navigation, optimized functionality and "My Vault," a customizable social networking style career management portal.
"In 2001, Vault created a subscription-based service to provide inside information for scholars and professionals to build a foundation for their career search," said Erik Sorenson, Vault president and CEO. "Today, we take that idea to a whole new level, providing professionals and students with the competitive edge and career intelligence necessary to successfully navigate the career landscape, even in today's troubling market."
Expanded Content and New Features
Career Insider promises to provide "The Intelligence You Need for the Career You Want" and holds true to this pledge through vastly expanded content. The number of industries the new site covers increase from 40 to nearly 200, expanding further to cover more pointed career paths. At the same time, the number of professions has also increased from 60 to more than 400.
The foundation of Vault's content is the nearly 50 thousand employee and industry influencer surveys the company conducts each year. These surveys have allowed Career Insider to offer expanded company profiles that provide targeted insight into the interview and hiring practices, salaries, advancement opportunities and corporate cultures of thousands of companies.
A new feature to the site, up-to-the-minute news from Dow Jones will provide users with the latest industry news further dissected by almost a dozen blogs that will also be included on Career Insider. Written by Vault's expert and guest editors, blogs include "Admit One," providing advice and tips for applying to-and getting into-users' dream schools; "SixFigureStart," offering practical tips and strategies based on how hiring really works and what employers really want from former Fortune 500 recruiters; and Erik Sorenson's own "Career Nation," a blog aimed at helping readers achieve career and job fulfillment.
My Vault: Taking Social Networking to the Job Market
Vault's new Career Insider delivers a more contextual experience designed to be relevant and responsive to the college student and job seeker's specific needs. Taking a cue from popular social networking sites, at the core of this new approach is "My Vault," a customizable career management portal. "My Vault" is a content organizational tool, through which users can access the latest information about their personalized list of target companies, industries and professions. Plus, Vault will deliver relevant information directly to their "My Vault" page - with news and content about organizations and jobs that are relevant to their interests and needs.
In addition, Career and Profession Discussion Boards allow users to interface with those already working or searching for jobs in targeted industries. A comprehensive, integrated search will also allow users to easily access information on any industry or career preference.
"Our goal is to provide a 360 degree experience for users," added Sorenson. "With every click, Vault surrounds our audience with the most relevant information for their career objectives."
