CAE Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible to apply if I am studying abroad?
Yes, students studying abroad are encouraged to apply.  Applications are submitted on LionSHARE through the Center for Career Education web site.  Interviews will be conducted at end of the Fall semester.  If you will be abroad during this time, please indicate this on your cover letter.  If you are selected for an interview, we will arrange a phone or video interview with you.

What kinds of program activities are organized during the internship period?
Students participating in the CAE program are provided with pre-program training to help them learn about resources available to them, logistics of the program, as well as insight on how to have a successful internship experience. Students will meet with a designated advisor from CCE once during the program to both provide feedback about the internship and have an opportunity to ask questions and share stories about their experience. Additionally, students will be provided with networking opportunities, educational workshops and career development events to help them grow in their understanding of what it means to pursue a career in the arts industry.

Are the internships paid?
Students are provided with a $250.00-$500.00 stipend, paid in two installments throughout the semester for their internship work (provided by the employer, CCE and the Arts Initiative at Columbia University). In some cases students are provided other benefits from the employer, such as coverage of transportation costs or tickets to events the employer runs.

Can I apply for more than one internship?
Yes, you may apply for up to three internships offered through the CAE program. You will be submitting one application for the program available on LionSHARE. You will be able to click on a link in the LionSHARE program description to read about all the positions available.

If I want to apply for more than one internship, do I have to submit an application for each one?
You will be asked in a section of the application to rank your top three choices of internships. You do not need to apply for three positions but if you choose to, you may do so. However, you must submit a specific cover letter for each position you apply to. For example if you are interested in Lincoln Center, New York City Ballet and Funny Garbage, you should submit one resume for all positions and a separate cover letter detailing your specific interest for each employer.
